Clarissa and Chris to Wed - Hey ! Hey !

Hey ! Hey !

Clarissa and Chris

to be wed!

by

Chelsea plays Manchester

South versus North,

Two lovely people

Both of high worth:

Blonde and, well, “hair-free”

Happy and carefree,

Lots of good vibes

And always much mirth!

My mobile phone jangled

As I drove my red carriage;

“I’d like your daughter’s hand

“In trust and in marriage,”

Said this Mancunian voice.

Plucking up all its courage;

“Blimey!” I exclaimed,

Taken aback by a mile,

Then “Certainly!” I retorted

With a big beaming smile.

Now it’s fixed

For the South Downs

In Singleton Church

The beauty of that valley

Makes all our hearts lurch

Its not only lovely

It won’t cost a million;

And the reception itself’s

In the Cricket Pavilion!

The dress has been bought

And a canopy too

For the Nuptial Knees-Up

Which will draw quite a few

From London ‘nd North

And all points of the compass

Let’s hope they don’t make

Too much of a rumpus!

(If they do, the South Downers

Could pop in and thump us!)

No, the bride and the bridegroom,

Looking marvellous together,

Will up the vibrations

Whatever the weather,

And our hearts will all melt

When we see, hear and feel,

Their great love and their joy

As church bells start to peal !

PS There’s been a quiet rumour

Though it might just be humour

That the appellation Grey-Bird

May from t’altar just be heard

Or might it be Bird-Grey?

Rhyming with Happy Birthday?

Or could it be just The Clarissa Bird

Who emerges creamy-white, veiled and glossy-winged,

Gliding all gorgeous

Down the aisle from the verbals?

And no silly jokes meantime please, about Tweeting and Twittering and  high-flying Clarissa Jane Bird and Christopher James Bird !)
